The rumor has been circulating the past few days, and over at The Blaze they had a preview.  And it is indeed true.  Five hundred retired Admirals and Generals, the cream of the crop of the nations top military brass, have now formally endorsed Governor Mitt Romney for President of the United States.

They have taken out an ad in the Washington Times to state their endorsement.  They have paid for the ad out of their own pocket, and are not affiliated with Romney’s official campaign.  The following has been reported at the Gateway Pundit, one of the very few sources on this story:

James J. Carey, a retired Navy rear admiral, told friends and colleagues in a written message that it was important for the group “to take a public stand on how very important it is that our fellow Americans choose a new Commander-in-Chief” on Tuesday. Carey is national chairman of the National Defense Committee.
