Update Benghazi Cover Up: Six Senators Exit Meetings with Rice, White House Withholding Key Evidence, Additional Lawmakers Declare Cover Up

Obama was outraged last week.  He was particulary angered as those investigating the Benghazi cover up followed the trail of deception which ultimately led them to look closer at Ambassador Susan Rice.

Lawmakers have come down hard on Ambassador Rice for her blatent misrepresentation of events that she portrayed to the American people on five Sunday talk shows.  Obama feigned chivalry, and declared so called “attacks” against Ambassador Susan Rice for her role in the cover up to be “outrageous”.

Ambassador Rice initiated meetings and met with a total of six senators this week, and failed to explain her actions which constituted a deliberate misrepresentation of fact.

Meanwhile, legislators who are investigating the cover up have become increasingly frustrated at the lack of cooperation from the White House.  The White House has refused to supply information and possible evidence that legislators have repeatedly requested.

Also this week, two additional lawmakers declared the Obama administration was guilty of a cover up.

The following is an update on the latest in the Benghazi cover up.

Background on the Current Update

After the news broke last week that the Office of the Director of National Intellgence had issued a statement that they were responsible for the change in the talking points memo, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta also made a statement blaming Al Qaeda for the terror attack.  Here is what Panetta had to say as former Ambassador John Bolton questions whether or not the White House pressured James Clapper’s office on the talking points:

When Director of National Intelligence James Clapper took responsibility for the talking points change, he contradicted his sworn testimony of only days before.  Also, as soon as his office took responsibilty, Ambassador Susan Rice seized the moment.

She broke ten weeks of silence to make a public statement on Benghazi, and declare she had relied solely on “the intelligence community” for the comments she made on the Sunday talk shows.

Meanwhile, two Tunisians who were implicated in the attack on our embassy in Tunisia immediately following the Benghazi attack, have both died while in custody in Tunisia.  Apparently they have died in the same prison that the Tunisian suspect in the Benghazi attack is being held at.  The FBI was sent to interview him, and nothing more is known.

Also, the Benghazi Security Chief was assassinated and he may have known who was responsible for the attack on the Consulate.

Jennifer Griffin of Fox News reported on Rice and all of the above:

Meanwhile, as legislators probed the legitmacy of Rice’s comments, Obama called their actions “outrageous” for daring to question Rice.

And Rice got her wish this week for the meeting with McCain she had “looked forward too”.  As she looks back on this week and her meetings with no less than McCain and five other Senators,  she may have regretted getting what she wished for.

Rice Met with Six Senators This Week

If Obama was outraged by the probe levied at Rice last week, he is probably infuriated this week.  Senator’s McCain, Ayoote, and Graham, held their meeting with Ambassador Rice on Tuesday.

Nothing in Tuesday’s meeting swayed Graham and the other Senators to feel any differently about Rice’s misrepresentation of fact to the American people.  Senator Graham exited the meeting with Rice declaring that now he was even more disturbed by Rice’s comments than before.

He also said that Rice’s effort to portray the Benghazi terror attack as an angry spontaneous mob, was “disconnected from reality”.

Senator Graham also noted that the legislators investigating the cover up still did not have the interviews of those who survived the attack the night it occured in Benghazi.

Senator Graham spoke with journalists on all of the above as he exited Tuesday’s meeting with Ambassador Rice:

Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), also met with Ambassador Rice on Tuesday.  Following the meeting with Rice, Senator Ayotte had this to say in a statement to the press:

Senator Ayotte also had other legitimate serious concerns regarding the meeting with Ambassador Rice.  In an interview with Megyn Kelly of Fox News, Senator Ayotte again noted that Rice had reviewed the supposed classified version of events and knew Al Qaeda was involved when she went on the Sunday talk show circuit.

This revelation that Rice knew better and still spun the tale, defies and destroy’s the statements Rice made last week after James Clapper took responsiblity for the change in the talking points memo.

When Clapper did so, Rice feigned innocence of knowingly misleading the American people.  She clung to Clapper’s statement that the “intelligence community” was responsible for her comments.  She used Clapper’s mia culpa for evidence that she did not know she was misleading the nation.

However, as Senator Ayotte notes, among other concerns, Rice had full awareness she was misrepresenting the facts to the American people when she appeared on the five Sunday talk shows.

In her interview with Megyn Kelly, Senator Ayotte also notes that Rice knew better when she also mislead the American people as she declared on the same Sunday talk shows that “Al Qaeda was decimated”.  Obama continued this deception on the campaign trail – all the way up to the day before the election – in Ohio on November 5th, he claimed Al Qaeda was decimated.

Senator Ayotte spoke on all of the above issues in an in depth interview with Megyn Kelly of Fox News following the meeting with Rice.  To see a video of the complete interview, click here.

Senator John McCain also emerged from the meeting discontent with any excuses offered by Rice.  Like Senators Graham and Ayotte, McCain is holding his ground, and refused to back down.

Following Tuesday’s joint meeting with Senators Graham, Ayotte, and McCain, Ambassador Rice also met with Independent Senator, Joe Lieberman.

Here is a written report from Fox on the outcome of Tuesday’s first round of meetings.  Rice was also scheduled to meet with more Senators Wednesday morning, which was yesterday, November 28, 2012.

Senator John McCain sat down with Greta Van Susteren following all six of this week’s meetings that Rice had initiated and looked forward to.  Senator McCain spoke at length with Greta, and noted additional concerns.

McCain said the White House knew within 24 hours it was a terror attack, and that Rice was sent out to do the Sunday talk shows in place of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, because according to Rice, Clinton was “tired”.

Sentator McCain also discussed the FBI investigation and suspects, and the CIA.  McCain also spoke to the need for a select committee to continue the investigation.  He closed with the latest proposal that is being considered on Gitmo.  Here is a video of McCain’s entire interview with Greta Van Susteren.

Wednesday Fails to Fix Tuesday for Rice

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations
Susan Rice listens to President Obama speak
during a Cabinet meeting at the White House in Washington.

Yesterday, on Wednesday, Senators Bob Corker (R-TN) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) met with Rice earlier in the day and brought the total to six senators who had met privately with Ambassador Rice this week to hear her version of events.

Neither Senator Corker nor Senator Collins were pleased with Rice’s explanations.  Senator Collins was particularly alarmed because of Rice’s past history.  Ambassador Rice is connected to a previous event that was similiar to the Benghazi attack.

Senator Collins left the meeting with Rice and gave her impression.  Newsmax reports the following reaction from Senator Collins:

“I still have many questions that remain unanswered,” Collins told reporters after a 75 minute meeting with Rice.  Collins said she still wanted more information about the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. mission and a nearby CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya in which the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed.  The Maine senator voiced a new concern about Rice after the meeting, stressing that the United States seems not to have learned lessons from the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Africa, when Rice was the State Department’s Africa region head.  Collins said this year’s attack in Benghazi “echoed” the attacks on the embassies in Kenya and Tanzania 14 years ago. “In both cases, the ambassador begged for additional security,” and both requests were turned down by State, she said.”

Fox News reports that Senator Corker was also unsatisfied with Rice’s defense after exiting the meeting.

Lawmakers and Press Complain as Evidence is Withheld

As Senator Graham noted above, the White House has repeatedly failed to provide requested information which is vital to the investigation.

Senator Graham is not the only one complaining about potential evidence and information being withheld.  According to CBS:

“Several Republican members of Congress claim the Obama administration is withholding key evidence relevant to their investigations into the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi, Libya…..At a Nov. 14 press conference, President Obama stated that his administration has provided all information regarding “what happened in Benghazi…..Despite Mr. Obama’s statements, the administration has also declined to provide CBS News with requested information including White House photographs taken the night of the attacks, details concerning the president’s and his staff’s decisions during the attacks, drone and ground-level surveillance images, and email communications and documents from the night of the Benghazi attacks.”

Two Additional Lawmakers Declare Cover Up

This week two additional lawmakers spoke out.

Senator John Kyl is one such legislator.  This week Senator Kyl joined those on Capitol Hill who are declaring a cover up.  He spoke with Greta Van Susteren day before yesterday and declared the White House is indeed conducting a cover up.

He also said the White House had to quit hiding behind such things as FBI investigations, and that the Benghazi attack was an act of war.  He holds Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Responsible.  The first four and half minutes of this interview, he discusses all of the above with Greta:

While awaiting the outcome of Wednesday’s meetings between Rice and Senators Collins and Corker, Senator Jim Inhofe appeared on Fox yesterday, and did not mince words.  Click here to see this morning’s video report with Fox and Senator Inhofe.  Senator Inhofe levied harsh rebuke and strong accusations at all concerned.

Senator Inhofe declared Susan Rice was part of the cover up.  Senator Inhofe also stated the White House was hoping this would go away and the Benghazi cover up is the biggest cover up in American history.

As the American people continue to watch the White House portrayal of events in Benghazi unravel in a heap of mispresentation and conflicting timelines and testimonies, legislators continue to demand answers and evidence that have thus far been withheld.

When a sliver of the truth emerged this week, it became clear that Ambassador Rice had knowingly and utterly misrepresented the truth on the matter of the death of fellow Ambassador Stevens and three other Americans.  It became apparent that Rice had done nothing more than spin White House propaganda to millions of Americans on a matter of national security after a blatant act of war had been commited on our sovereign soil.

Many critical questions remain unanswered.

Why did the Obama administration reduce security when calls were repeatedly made from Benghazi to increase security as Al Qaeda hoisted their flags and took control of the city? Were we able to provide military assistance that night that would have prevented the massacre of Ambassador Stevens, and three other brave Americans?

If we were able to do so, why did we not send military aid in time to rescue Ambassador Stevens and Sean Smith, thirty Americans who barely made it out alive, and two Americans who died making sure the others did make it out alive?

Why have four top commanders connected with Benghazi been replaced, disgraced, retired, or fired?  Why are there so many conflicting testimonies all across the board, pertaining to everything from timelines to military capability?

Why were the American people unjustifiably lied to from the beginning? Why were the American people led into a false sense of security as war was waged against us by Al Qaeda and their supporters on our soil in Benghazi and all across the Middle East?

As it now stands, certain determined legislators continue to serve the people and contend for the truth in the face of stonewalling and conflicting testimony from the White House.

As the Obama administration continues to defend it’s actions and lack thereof, the American people still have no answers to any of the above questions that can be relied upon.  These questions remain unanswered and shrouded in mystery as the cover up continues.

“Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master.  Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.  Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of Liberty abused to licentiousness.  Occupants of public offices love power and are prone to abuse it….There is but one straight course, and that is to seek truth and pursue it steadily” ~George Washington
